Our Impact

Latest Update: 2 July 2019

A fast, safe online system to help people from refugee and migrant backgrounds complete their citizenship journey – we are the oldest refugee hosting network in the UK and use our learning to help hosts and organisations in other countries.

Room for Refugees has positively transformed the lives of thousands of children, women and men from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds, and built lifelong bonds of friendship and companionship between our hosts and guests.

More than 104,000  nights of shelter arranged and over 1,000 families, women, men and young people speeded up in their journey towards citizenship (From 2002 to 2019).

7,685  fully registered hosts ready to offer long and short term spare rooms to refugees and those seeking refuge from war and persecution. (July 2, 2019)

70% of our hosts are in Scotland, England, Wales, N. Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

30% (2,500) are in the USA – with active hosting taking place in Chicago in partnership with refugee and homelessness and sanctuary groups.

Help the Network grow by signing up at www.roomforrefugees.com and giving a donation via Paypal Giving Fund.

638 external caseworkers from 333 refugee, homelessness and aid agencies now part of the network.

The Network has made a significant difference for over 1,000 families and individuals who were enabled to progress or resolve their legal situation and rebuild their lives with the Network’s intervention.

At any given time, we have around 70 – 100  families or individuals being sheltered by our hosts. We expect this number to grow.

The room for refugees Network worked closely with social workers in 3 Scottish local authority areas, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perthshire and Ayrshire, to successfully identify potential foster carers or hosts from its register for unaccompanied asylum seeker children.
